Meredith Hews Messer grew up in Crouseville and graduated from Washburn District High School in 1990. Athletics was a very important part of her experience at WDHS where she was a 4 sport athlete playing Basketball, Soccer, Softball and Volleyball. She was a member of the 1988 and 1989 Class D State Championship basketball teams. In 1990 the team was the Northern Maine Runners Up and she was selected to the All-Tournament Team. Meredith was selected to the Maine Soccer Coaches Class D All Star team in 1989. Coach Ron Ericson selected her the team MVP in both Soccer and Basketball in her Senior seasons. She was also honored by the Maine Legends Hall of Fame as one of the Academic Athlete Honorees for the class of 1990. The strong County and family roots laid the foundation for a successful collegiate and coaching career.

Attending the University of New England in the fall of 1990 opened the door for her soccer career. A curiosity and intensity for the sport was developed by “Coach Hal” and soccer quickly became her passion. Transferring to Farmington in 1991 to pursue a degree in Secondary Education presented a new challenge academically and athletically. During her senior season in 1993, Meredith earned All Conference Defensive Team honors, Maine Soccer Coaches All Collegiate Team honors, All American All Academic Honors and Team MVP.

In the fall of 1994 she was hired by SAD 28 to teach Mathematics at Camden Rockport Middle School and High School. She was also hired to coach JV Soccer under Rich Roberts. In 1996 Meredith took over the Varsity program at Camden Rockport High School and has remained, following the transition to Camden Hills Regional High School in 2000. Since becoming the Varsity coach her teams made it to tournament play 23 out of 26 seasons. They have participated in 2 Northern B Regional Finals, 6 Northern A Regional Finals and have amassed 290 wins, including a stretch from 2016-2021 (minus 2020 Covid off season) of 71 games without a loss. The streak included 4 straight Class A State Championships. Messer was named the Northern Maine Coach of the year in 2016 and 2019 by the Maine Soccer Coaches Association. She was selected as Maine’s United Soccer Coaches of New England Large School Region 1 Coach of the Year nominee in 2016, 2017 and 2019, winning that honor in 2019 and was recognized at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s National convention. Finally in 2019 the National Federation of High Schools chose Meredith as the National High School Girls Soccer Coach of the Year for 2018-2019. Meredith was also inducted into the Midcoast Hall of Fame in 2019.
Meredith continues teaching mathematics at Camden Hills Regional High School. She obtained her National Board Certification in 2008, maintaining this certification to date.
She resides in Rockport Maine with her family, husband Marty Messer and children Charlotte, Casey and Quincy. Her father Dana resides in Crouseville and still goes to as many games as he can.
